We are hiring a Full-Time Permanent Senior Project Manager (Distribution Projects) position working out of Edmonton, AB.

 

As the Senior Project Manager, you are accountable for overseeing and successfully completing large complex, multi-year EPCOR Distribution and Transmission Inc. (EDTI) Direct Assign projects and other external customer projects. You will be monitoring, controlling and reporting project progress and costs on an ongoing basis in accordance with regulatory, corporate and EDTI requirements, and working with operations crews, external contractors and suppliers, project sponsors and engineering. Your interactions with these groups will allow you to proactively identify and resolve issues and obstacles so that projects are executed in a safe, disciplined and efficient manner.

 

As the successful Senior Project manager, you are a listener and team player. You will mentor, train and guide other Distribution Project Managers. You possess strong interpersonal skills in dealing with people issues, providing feedback and mentoring. This allows you to use your influence to further your project objectives and meet business needs. You comfortably navigate change, problem-solve and shift your priorities. As a Senior Project Manager, you are a leader. You are a go-to for information and you use your knowledge to make decisions and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

What you’d be responsible for

  • Providing input to the Distribution Projects Business Plan, ensuring an appropriate understanding of the EPCOR and Distribution Projects strategy throughout Distribution and ensuring on-going effective positioning and appropriate relationships between other positions in Distribution and Transmission Projects and in the rest of EPCOR.
  • Providing mentorship, training and guidance to Distribution Project Managers. Developing process maps, training manuals and guidelines.
  • Developing comprehensive Project governance documents for each assigned major capital projects. Reporting to project sponsors and key stakeholders on project performance (budget, schedule, and scope) through duration of project or program.
  • Securing timely project/program funding; preparing Financial Review Committee approval documents in accordance with EPCOR’s Capital Investment Policy. Where required, preparing, submitting and presenting project status reports to EPCOR’s Project Monitoring Committee (PMC) including quarterly Board reports. 
  • Managing regulatory and permitting requirements with external stakeholders including but not limited to: AUC, AESO, Municipal, Provincial and Federal regulatory and government agencies.
  • Conducting routine safety inspections on projects sites documenting any deficiencies found and assign appropriate corrective actions. Supporting HS&E led investigations as required.
  • Ensuring the delivery of complete, accurate on-time and constructible work order packages by setting appropriate IFC target dates, arranging design walk-throughs to ensure constructability, leading design and construction meetings, and completing thorough reviews of packages prior to issuing them for construction.
  • Communicating assigned schedules and scopes of work clearly to internal field and contractor resource groups, ensuring appropriate coordination between groups where required and conducting regular performance reviews while construction is in progress identifying, documenting, and partition recommendations with all stakeholders.
  • Evaluating and appointing external contractors and consultants to support project execution in compliance with EDTI procurement, regulatory, HS&E, and legal requirements.
  • Leading project kick-off meetings for all large-scale, high-profile, environmentally sensitive or complex projects or those that require coordination with external parties. Ensuring project requirements, schedules, performance and any site specific safety and environmental requirements or restrictions are proactively managed and clearly communicated to all parties.
  • Ensuring optimal use of resources by working collaboratively with other EDTI stakeholders to compare overall schedule alignment against resource availability and securing internal resources and external contractors to complete the work..

What’s required to be successful

  • A degree in Engineering or a diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institute.
  • With a degree in Engineering we require:
    • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.);
  • With a diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering we require:
    • Professional Licensee P.L.(Eng.) with the ability to review, approve and stamp Electrical Distribution System designs;
    • Extensive experience in trades, construction or project management.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in electrical distribution systems required, including direct design or construction experience in Aerial and Underground Distribution systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of Aerial and Underground Distribution system construction methods, procedures, work practices and techniques is required.
  • Experience in project management of complex utility construction projects with increasing responsibility is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a larger management team within a dynamic environment is required.
  • Ability to develop, nurture and manage customer relationships is required.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical or complex issues in a clear and succinct manner.
  • Demonstrated ability showing strong decision making skills required.
